Foster The People- Supermodel

Foster the People have released their second album entitled Supermodel.  This LP is definitely a progression from Torches, their previous studio album.  In fact, it sounds quite a bit like Torches, I would have called it Torches Part II.
Foster the People recorded some of the album in Morocco.  And you can hear the afrobeat influence on Supermodel's opening track "Are You What You Want to Be?".  This track perfectly sets up what the rest of the album has in store, in both the sound and the message.   This album overall is the perfect reflection soundtrack for people who are trying to find themselves, their place.  Asking questions like "is this the life you've been waiting for?" ("Ask Yourself")  This album narrates how it feels to look back on your life and figure out whether it is satisfying.  Even though the message of this album sounds a bit depressing, the delivery is pretty feel good.
Leading up to the album drop, Foster released a few singles, the one that stood out most to me was "Best Friend", the latest single.  This song has an old school feel with a simple, groovy bass line and sliding falsetto harmonies... reminds me of my Dad's music a little bit.  This song and their opening track are about the extent Foster went with expanding on their sound.   The album in its entirety is very simple and flat.  The songs are pretty high energy and poppy, but it lacks complex content and adventure.
This album is cutesy, very fan pleasing.  But I feel they could push further than that.  Foster the People experimented a little bit, however, I would like to hear even more experimentation with sound in the future. Most of the tracks on this album simply did not stick with me.  I think they should release an EP that is just full of them experimenting and see how it goes over.

I give this album 6 out of 10.

Have you listened to Foster The People's new album yet?

Happy Listening.
